Course Prerequisites:

  • This course is limited to students who have already completed a basic holster course such as the ABD Holster Course or IPSC Black Badge course. Equivalencies will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Attendees must be Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) holders or current members of the Canadian Armed Forces. Practical Pistol Concepts is intended for shooters who are already proficient with a handgun and participants must demonstrate safe firearm handling for the duration of the course. Students need to be familiar with the pistol and holster they bring as there isn’t sufficient time in the curriculum to develop familiarity.

Equipment Requirements:

  • A reliable centrefire handgun equipped with a Pistol Mounted Optic (PMO)***
  • At least 5 reliable magazines***
  • A rigid, plastic, gun side belt or drop-leg holster that will not collapse after drawing -
    holsters must provide active or passive retention and retain the pistol while moving
    *SERPA style holsters are prohibited (index finger retention device)
  • 10 dummy rounds or Snap-Caps
  • At least 2 magazine pouches, more is better
  • A sturdy belt
  • Minimum 750 rounds of ammunition, more is better
  • Combat Application Tourniquet (CAT) or SOF Tourniquet and an Individual First Aid Kit
    (IFAK) are recommended
  • Eye and hearing protection
  • Hat with a brim/toque
  • Notepad and pen
  • Appropriate clothing for the weather – we train rain or shine
  • Gloves, knee pads, and elbow pads are encouraged
  • Weapons and equipment maintenance items are strongly encouraged
  • Food and water for the day
  • Attendees MUST provide their PAL to instructors at the commencement of training and
    must adhere to the provisions of the Firearms Act
  • More equipment specifics will follow with the joining instructions.

This course is based on the most progressive law enforcement PMO programs currently being offered in Canada. It is designed for shooters of all abilities to push themselves beyond their comfort zones and improve their skill and confidence. Throughout this course, participants will delve into a comprehensive curriculum covering a wide range of topics essential for efficient PMO use. Increase your marksmanship at close and long range, enhance your gun handling efficiency, shoot from unconventional positions, learn how to overcome optic occlusions, all of this and much more will be covered in 16 demanding hours of training.
